If you’ve done any research in the world of strength training and athletic conditioning over the past few years you may have noticed a “new” style of training called combination training or combo training.  If you haven’t noticed that “new” style of training I’ll give you a quick overview. Combination training is a style of training that is not new at all, in fact it’s been used by the Eastern Block countries for ages.  It’s kind of ironic that America is the most advanced nation in many aspects, but when it comes to many strength and conditioning concepts we are very far behind.  This style of training involves combining (hence the name combination) multiple training styles into one workout, and even into one set of exercises.  For example consider performing a set of heavy weight bench press for strength development immediately followed my medicine ball chest passes for rapid power application.  From a biomechanical standpoint the movements are almost identical, but the goal of the training could not be more different.  So why are they put into the same set of drills?
