Doorway Stretches
Like the song says, the knee bone's connected to the thigh bone? and so on up to the top of your head. That means that stretches that involve the entire body have a high transference from the stretch to whatever activity you're training for. The following stretches don?t require any fancy equipment?just a doorway and you.
Theses stretches reinforce the loading of the back swing and the initiation of the downswing with the movement of the lower body.
Doorway #1
Stand next to a doorway and reach across your body with your lead arm and grasp the doorjam. Set yourself in a loaded position as you would be at the top of your backswing. If you set yourself right, you should feel a pull in your back side hip and the back of the lead shoulder. The weight on your backside foot should be on the inside of the heel.
To perform the stretch, push off the backside foot and drive the hips forward without letting go of the doorjam. Hold this position for a count of 2 and release the tension. Repeat for up to 20 repetitions.
Doorway #2
Assume a loaded position as in the first exercise, but this time grasp the doorjam with the back side hand. There should be a pull on the front side of the back side shoulder. Keeping the elbow slightly bent keeps an uncomfortable tension off of your biceps.
To perform the stretch, push off the backside foot and drive the hips forward without letting go of the doorjam. Hold this position for a count of 2 and release the tension. Repeat for up to 20 repetitions.
Be sure to follow these stretches with some full swings at normal tempo to integrate the added flexibility to your golf swing. What's The Key to Your Best Swing?
