Credit to www.Alywncosgrove.com I recently wrote a series of articles on undulating periodization. These articles were well received and to this day remain one the most popular articles I have ever written. I was asked several times by readers to then develop a similar program for the athlete. Every athlete and indeed every individual is different, but there are some similarities. Most athletes want explosive power and strength - so use this program as a starting point - as a template that you can use to tweak your own program. Keep the sequence however that has an explosive Olympic lift and a plyometric exercise at the start.

Credit to www.defrancostraining.com During your time in the gym, you’ve probably noticed that the same training questions are discussed amongst athletes and fitness buffs day in and day out. You know the questions I’m talking about: "What exercises will shape and tone my muscles because I don’t want to get too bulky?" And let’s not forget this classic: "How do I get a better peak on my biceps?"

The term periodization is used quite a bit in iron sports as well as in individual dual and team sports. It’s a very versatile tool used to help guide training. However, one model doesn’t fit all. The periodization scheme must be adjusted and individualized not only to the sport, but also to the individual athlete and his or her level. This is where much confusion exists.

The primary goal of the training process is obviously enhanced performance, for the coach/athlete this goal is obviously paramount. However, reaching this goal is not simple; it may be argued that enhancing performance is actually a process of intentionally repeating stimuli (exercise) which result in recovery-adaptation, while avoiding overstress-overtraining. There are basically two methods whereby a coach/athlete can enhance the stimulus- recovery adaptation process:
